With 30 degree temps here in Illinois, it is certainly beginning to feel a lot like winter! That means that decorating for the holidays is just around the corner and its bittersweet!
We have SO much to do around our new home that we purchased in October! Case in point: Painting (every single room), hardware changes, organizing everything, unpacking (yes..still), getting the nursery ready (yay!), furnace trouble (boo), filing and re-filing all sorts of paperwork……..so this means that decorating for the holidays is waaaaaay at the bottom of the “real” priority list but, it’s on the top of the “feel good” priority list. (i.e. – I don’t really need to do these things, but it just makes my heart happy to do them and see them all pretty!)
So…my heart has won the battle and we are doing just *a little* decorating this year…just a tad.
On a different note, I have been so obsessed with doodling lately (mainly on my iPad), so I am sharing one of my pretties with you in the form of the downloadable December 2013 calendar and phone wallpaper (two versions!). A sweet, little deer!

HAPPY, HAPPY HOLIDAYS & good luck in your holiday decorating!
It’s time for leaves, bonfires, hoodies, s’mores, boots & tights and SO many more great autumn things! There is just “something” about fall weather that is so amazing and refreshing, I missed this weather very much while living in sunny, always 70 degree, California. What did I NOT miss? Winter….oh, you dreaded winter please do not come this year! (yeah right)
Recently, I have had a plethora of time on my hands….wait….I’m being completely sarcastic. My husband and I bought our first home (more to come on that,) we found out that our little bundle is a BOY and we have been painting and cleaning this new house like crazy! Being a pregnant woman can be exhausting…let alone painting until the wee hours each night just to wake up, go to work and do it all over again! Mr. Brown and I have been working our butts off.
Amidst all the hustle and bustle, a way for me to feel creative and productive (and not completely insane) is to doodle…SO this month’s calendar is just that! A doodle!
And yes…it’s a fox. Foxes are a popular animal right now; I have no idea how an animal can be more popular than others…Pinterest I suppose…but I think foxes are adorable. And no, no one knows what the fox says. (Click here if you don’t know what I’m refering to) Anyway….here it is!

I hope to show you our lovely little cottage VERY soon so STAY TUNED!
It seems like summer just started and now I’m worried that it’s almost over! All of you in Central Illinois know that this summer has so far felt just like Spring…or a rain forest…or maybe the last 2+ years in Northern California made be “weather spoiled.”
Definition of weather spoiled: One who has lived in perfect and predictable Northern California climate for the duration of at least one cycle of the four season, therefore making them a big, whiny, baby when normal or unpredictable weather strikes.
I just hope I get over it by winter! And yes…I really just mentioned winter…incredibly inappropriate. So sorry!
I’ve created some downloadable goodies for you to get into the summertime/July 4th mood (and just in time since Independence Day is tomorrow!)

Please leave me a comment, it would certainly make me very happy!
Happy April Fools Day!I hope you got to play a few tricks on family members, co-workers or unsuspecting strangers today! I’m not into the whole “tricking” thing…I feel like Karma will come back and get me if I try anything at all! Plus I’m married to a if-you-get-me-I’ll-get-you-worse kind of guy…and I surely don’t want to start a prank war with the hubbie! Who knows what he would do to my make-up or hair products (and we certainly don’t want him messing with those!)
Anyway, I wanted to share a fun site with you all! It’s called Pic Monkey! [www.picmonkey.com] I just discovered this site recently and it’s so fun! Chalkboard designs are all the craze now and sometimes you just don’t have the time or patience to sit down and physically draw on a chalkboard. Well…this site has lots of great fonts and all you have to do is download this chalkboard background, upload it to Pic Monkey and design away!
Or if you aren’t interested in designing your own chalkboard design, I have created a few for you to download! Free of charge, my gift to you…don’t mention it 🙂
Oh, one more thing, I know that my hubbie gives me a hard time about a) being terrified of birds and b) buying notebooks, candle holders, clothes, home decor and making crafts all with birds on them. When I made the second design, I knew the hubbie would get a good laugh especially when he remembers the Portlandia skit “Put a Bird On It.” The skit is hysterical…it’s 2 minutes of your life that you’ll never get back…but it will certainly give you a chuckle. Click HERE to watch it! You’ll thank me later…
Not only do I have those beautiful chalkboard designs for you but I also have the April 2013 Printable Calendar and Downloadable iPhone Wallpaper for you! These make me so happy…there is just something so fun about polka dots and floral! (Oh, and there is a white version for those of you who don’t enjoy polka dots as much as I do…shame on you!) Enjoy!

I hope your Easter weekend was full of love, joy and good food!
Good morning! It is beautiful outside all across the country. It’s beautifully sunny and green here in the Bay Area, I hear it’s amazingly warm in Florida and I also here that there’s a gorgeous blanket of snow layering the Midwest (or maybe it’s stained gray by now, but it was definitely white and beautiful when it fell earlier this week.)
First off, I know that I have been pretty absent on the blog lately…I’m sorry. We have been pretty busy traveling and working lately! My next post will be all about an AMAZING surprise weekend getaway I took my hubby on in late January….to Big Sur!
If you have no idea what or where Big Sur is…just wait until you see the pictures because it is BREATHTAKING! And it was a great relief to get away from all of the traffic and the people that we’re used to in the Bay Area.
So anyway, I have really been missing home and the simple life of Illinoislately, so I tried to mend by homesickness a bit when creating theMarchdownloads. (Dear Illinois, I use the term “simple” in the most flattering, envious way, I promise!) Many times when I went over to friends’ houses, I remember seeing a hanging frame holding a beautifully stitched rendition of their family name.
I wish I had the patience tocross stitch…or learn how to cross stitch even, but I don’t right now…maybe sometime in the future.
My first virtual cross stitch project was the March calendar and wallpapers. Hope you enjoy your downloads and that you feel lucky throughout the entire month of March!!!

Hi friends! Happy February! Oh gosh…it’s already the second month of the new year! I hope everyone is still on track for their new years resolutions and goals! If you aren’t, grab a friend and help each other to be accountable…peer pressure always works!
So anyway, I have been browsing the internet lately and seeing all sorts of Valentine’s related printables, gift ideas, decorations, desserts, drink recipes…you name it! And as much as I love everything girly and Valentines-esque (lace, hearts, pink, etc.)…I am really not a big fan of the actual Valentine’s Day holiday. My hubby and I have never celebrated it and hopefully never will. Something about a holiday that requires scrambling for the “perfect” gift for your special someone just isn’t romantic, especially if there is an undertone of “it better be the right thing or else…”
I remember being in middle school and high school when February rolled around and feeling SO MUCH panic pressure to buy something outstanding for my current guy. Over those few years I found that you can never go wrong with…
candy (everyone loves candy)
over-priced, patterned (yet trendy) boxers
a nice picture of yourself (conceited I know…but hey! it works…)
a love note on pretty paper
anything hobby-related (I once bought a $300 impact gun for my serious boyfriend…yeah, about that…I’m not really sure what an impact gun even does…)
This year, I am thinking that maybe the hubby and I should try to have to most non-romantic evening just to go against the social standard. I am envisioning this: we both get home from work late, slightly ignore one another for awhile while we do chores, eat weird, three-day-old leftovers and then go our separate ways for the rest of the night doing whatever random thing we want…sounds romantic right?
Alright…back on track…so for this month’s calendar, I tried to make something that wasn’t oozing withred and pink lacey hearts, for those of us who don’t want Valentine’s Day to be looming over us all month long. Although my calendar does have hearts…and lace…and says the word “love” on it…(what? I like those things all year round!) I tried to go in a “what a nice, inspirational message” direction vs. “hello everyone, please choke on this Valentine’s day crap” direction. Either way, I hope you like it and have a happy February 14th (or Valentine’s Day) whichever you celebrate!

Happy New Year my friends! It is officially 2013 and some very significant things happened (and did not happen) this year! Here is a re-cap:
I married my best friend on August 4th! Best day of my life.
I spent the entire year in beautiful California getting acclimated to the perfect and constant 70ºweather. It was amazing but it sure made it difficult to visit my hometown in Central Illinois this holiday season. Brrrr!
I started this blog! Slowly but surely I am gaining new followers! Thank you everyone!!!
The world did not end. =) I would like to thank the Mayans for making a big deal about nothing…although the documentaries on this topic were entertaining…
Here are a few of my personal goals for 2013!
Craft more! and of course post all of my tutorials here! (Not sure you have noticed…but have posted ZERO. I’m not happy about it)
Be more conscious of my body and the nutrients I put into it.
Be creative EVERY day! (This is what keeps me sane!)
Wake up earlier on the weekdays and enjoy my mornings (instead of rushing around like a crazy person!)
Continue to post my printable calendars and downloadable iPhone wallpapers each and every month! (Along with just posting more in general!)
And on that note…for the month of January, I’ve created a Nordic-style printable calendar and wallpapers! I love that the Nordic design is so clean, crisp!

Hello friends! How many of you commute for work? And no…I don’t mean a 15 minute easy-as-pie drive.
I mean the commute where if you don’t leave your house at a very specific time, you are likely to miss the last commuter train that will get you to work on time….most days I actually sprint to the station…
I take BART ([Bay Area Rapid Transit] every morning so my morning routine involves waking up (late usually,) then franticallygracefully searching for a weather appropriate ensemble and leaving my apartment at [literally] no later than 8:12am. But before I leave I need to make sure that I have the following items:
• Umbrella (if needed of course…and considering San Francisco & the Bay Area, I can pretty much assume that I’ll need this most days from December through February)
• Rain boots (same as above)
• My clipper card (the card I use to pay for my train fare every morning and night…a whopping $5.00 each way)
• An appropriate coat/jacket
• My make-up….(I am usually running so late that I have to do my make up on the train…which is really fun considering the amount of people that ride BART and more importantly, the really attractive faces I make while applying make-up…)
• Scarf (Year round..Remember people, we are talking about San Francisco here…)
Anyway, so you are probably wondering “Ok, Carissa…why you are telling me this?”… WELL because my commute is 35 minutes each way, 70 minutes total…which gives me plenty of time to play around on my new favorite app and make you some new beautiful iPhone wallpapers!
The app is called “Collage Day” and it is adorable! Check it out at the Apple Store by clicking here! In the meantime, download one (or all) of my adorable iPhone wallpapers I made!
Hello! Carissa here…I am wondering how in the world is it already December?
This year has just flown by and very soon it will be 2013 and we will start all over again…(sigh)This month I am very excited because my husband and I will be traveling home to Illinois (for you non-Midwesterners, the “s” is silent) to see our friends and family! This will be the first time that we have visited this year while not planning a wedding. (I will post on our wedding later…but just to give you a taste, I think my wedding planning mindset was “Let’s-see-how-many-important-wedding-items-I-can-DIY-while-working-full-time.” It was a success but a stressful one…)
Anyway, here is this month’s calendar and iPhone download! Yippee! If you have any suggestions for January’s downloads, please let me know!
